Antoine Cadillac
He was sent over as a commander in the French military to New Fracne in 1701. Him and a group of 100 other men traveled down a series of canals to find a port for trading. They ended up in spot of land off a main river. Cadillac named the city "ville de troit" which is translated into English as "city of the straits". He immediately made ties with the surrounding Native American Tribes for trading and protection.
The King wanted to use this port as a main spot to control fur trading around Michigan. Cadillac had other plans.
